Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid medication that works by binding to and activating intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. Once activated, these receptors bind to DNA promoter regions, triggering or suppressing transcription, which leads to the inactivation of genes through histone deacetylation. This medication is used to treat various allergic, autoimmune, and inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, psoriasis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis.

Substitution Dose: 4-8 mg/day, increase to 16 mg/day in cases of stress.
Directions for Use: Take after meals.
Caution: Requires a doctor's prescription. Use with caution in patients with heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., diverticulitis, ileostomy, peptic ulcers, ulcerative colitis), multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, recent heart attack, cataracts, glaucoma, osteoporosis, history of seizures, and thyroid disease. Avoid sudden dose changes. Use cautiously in patients with kidney and liver disorders (including cirrhosis). Not recommended for use in children, pregnancy, and breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Pregnancy Category C: May pose risks to the fetus, use only if necessary. Animal studies suggest fetal risks, and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, blood glucose, electrolytes, and growth in children is recommended.
