Vometa contains domperidone, an antiemetic drug that works by blocking peripheral dopamine receptors. This action increases esophageal peristalsis, lowers esophageal sphincter pressure, enhances gastric motility, and improves gastroduodenal coordination, facilitating stomach emptying and reducing small bowel transit time.

It is indicated for acute nausea and vomiting, as well as functional dyspepsia. In children, it is used for nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer.

Dosage:

Adults: 10 mg, 3 times daily. Maximum: 30 mg per day. Treatment duration should not exceed 7 days. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

Children:

• Children <12 years (<35 kg): 0.25 mg/kg, up to 3 times daily. Maximum: 0.75 mg/kg per day.
• Children ≥12 years or ≥35 kg: Same as adult dose.

Directions for Use: Take on an empty stomach, 15-30 minutes before meals.

Caution:

• Use only as prescribed by a doctor.
• Caution in patients with a personal or family history of breast cancer, risk factors for sudden cardiac death (e.g., family history of coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol use).
• Caution in patients with mild kidney or liver dysfunction, children, and the elderly.
• Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefit outweighs the risk.
• May cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

Monitoring: EKG and kidney function monitoring at the beginning and periodically during treatment.

Pregnancy Category: C (May be risky). Use cautiously when the benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. Animal studies show potential risks, but there is insufficient data on its use in pregnant women.
